It was a lifelong dream to visit the Land of Oz. We were lucky enough to realize that dream making it the destination of our fifth wedding anniversary. We began our adventure in Brisbane, and visited Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide along the way.
Of course a trip to Australia wouldn’t be complete without a stop in Sydney. It is one of the most magical places we’ve ever visited. It is a city with so much to offer – a bustling metropolis, a hip beach town and everything in between. We stayed at the Intercontinental Sydney. The hotel’s location was fantastic, within walking distance to Sydney Harbour and our room had incredible views of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bay Bridge.
One of our first stops was the Sydney Fish Market. The Sydney Fish Market is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the world’s second largest seafood market outside of Japan.
Next, we spent some time exploring the city visiting the Sydney Harbour, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and Cockle Bay Wharf.
We headed over to Bondi Beach and then the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.
Our visit to the Royal Botanic Garden was truly unforgettable as it’s where we renewed our vows. David completely surprised me setting up the entire thing without me knowing anything about it.
David also surprised me with a helicopter tour of Sydney which was amazing. I had never been on a helicopter not to mention it was a great way to see the city.
Darling Harbour, the Chinese Garden of Friendship and Medusa Greek Taverna were next on the itinerary.
We visited Manly Beach and Hugos Manly before heading over to The Intersection Paddington. The Intersection is a great place to shop with some world renowned Australian designers setting up shop there.
We did a day trip to the Hudson Wine Valley. It was fun but we were a bit spoiled having visited The Adalaide wine region before our visit.
Bottom Line: Sydney will always have a special place in our hearts. It was a dream realized while also providing the perfect backdrop to renew our vows.
