Queensland and the Australia Zoo

Brisbane was our first stop on our two-week Australian journey. We decided to visit Brisbane because of its proximity to The Australia Zoo, or as we like to call it Steve Irwin Zoo. The Australia Zoo was absolutely incredible, a once in a lifetime experience. You can really see the love and care the Irwin family has for animals especially during the various live shows held throughout the day.

One of the things that makes this zoo so amazing is how close you can get to the animals – in a way that is educational and safe.

We were lucky enough to have an animal encounter with a five year old Sumatran Tiger named Kiara.

Next, we made a visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the world’s largest koala sanctuary with over 130 koalas. We took a ferry to and from the Sanctuary which was a great way to see the city.

We made a stop at XXXX Brewery and Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) before heading off to Melbourne.

Bottom Line:

We would absolutely recommend including Brisbane on an Australian itinerary if you are an animal lover. The Australia Zoo is hands down the best zoo we’ve ever been to.
